BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that forward Garett Bembridge has been loaned to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Bembridge currently leads the ECHL with 75 points and 36 goals. The 24-year-old is on pace to become the first player since 2002-03 to score 100 points and could become the first player to score 50 goals since 2000-01.

Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Laxdal said, "As a team, we're very excited for Garett...it's a well-earned opportunity at the American Hockey League level. It's also a great chance for other players on the team to step up and fill Garett's position for the duration of his call up in Portland."

The 6-0, 190-pound right wing is playing in his fifth professional year and first with the Idaho Steelheads. Selected in the fifth round (137th overall) by the New York Rangers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and again in the seventh round (207th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2001 Entry Draft, Bembridge was named the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for November, and was twice recognized as the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 21-27 (4g-3a) and for Dec. 19-25 (4g-2a).

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native represented Idaho as a starter and assistant captain at the 2006 All-Star Game, along with center D'Arcy McConvey and defenseman Mike Gabinet, where he tallied one assist.

Bembridge scored 56 points (23g-33a) in 50 games in Germany in 2004-05. In 2003-04 he split time with Las Vegas, where he scored seven points (4g-3a) in 13 games, and Lowell of the American Hockey League, appearing in 57 games with 14 points (5g-9a). He also played in the AHL with Hartford and Saint John in 2000-03.

Prior to turning professional, Bembridge played four years for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League where he led the Blades in scoring with 78 points (38g-40a) in 2000-01 and has a career total of 188 points (89g-99a) in 218 games.

The Steelheads travel to Las Vegas for two games this weekend before returning to Qwest Arena on March 1st.
