Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Bombers and the Toledo Storm met for the second time in the last three days tonight at the EJ Nutter Center. After a defensive 1-0 shutout over the Storm in Toledo on Sunday, no one could have predicted the kind of game the Bombers would have in this one.

The first seven minutes or so looked like a spitting image of the game in Toledo, but what happened next would change that in a hurry. The Bombers received the first power play of the night and the top unit would make it count.

Tim Konsorada (11) would knock one home past Storm goaltender Drew McIntyre on a shot from the left circle, assists to Scott Cameron (34) and Jeremy Van Hoof (13) at the 7:34 mark in the first period. Van Hoof returned to the Bombers lineup after missing six games with concussion like symptoms sustained on a hit from the Wheeling Nailers Curtiss Patrick back on February 10th.

Dayton would then make it 2-0 as Jeff Szwez (21) made a gorgeous move to the forehand off an outlet pass from Jay Latulippe (20) and Bombers goaltender David Currie (1), short handed at the 10:25 mark of the first period. Toledo would cut the lead in half on a goal by Bracken Kearns, and the Bombers would take a 2-1 into the locker room after twenty.

Most of the second period was dump and chase from both teams surprisingly, and the Bombers penalty kill would be put to the test a number of times as well, but it didn't matter and the 2-1 stood up until late in the second.

Another Bombers power play goal, this time by Cameron (18) sliding one off the backhand through the legs of McIntyre, assists to Szwez (21) and Konsorada (23) at the 16:28 mark made it 3-1, then :22 seconds later Szwez (22) would add his second of the night, with another assist for Cameron (35) and Konsorada (24) both and the Bombers would make it stand through the second and lead 4-1 at the end of two.

Brad Bonello would cut the lead to 4-2 early in the third period at the 3:30 mark, but less than two minutes later the Bombers would answer right back on back-up goaltender Bryan Worosz, who came in to replace McIntyre after the second period.

Dominic Noel (11) would bang home a rebound on a shot by Latulippe (21) off a pass from Mark Flood (12) at the 5:01 mark to push the lead back to three at 5-2. Toledo would add another late in the third, but that was all and the Bombers would hold on for a 5-3 victory to make it two in a row over the Storm.

David Currie picked up his second straight win stopping 39 of 42 shots faced, and the Bombers penalty kill (which has now killed off 21 straight opposing power plays.) would knock off all eight opportunities by the Storm as well

The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary season in Reading on Friday night at 7:05pm, as they take on the first place Reading Royals. The game can be heard on 980 (am) Homer the Sports Animal or on line at www.daytonbombers.com. Dayton Bombers Hockey, celebrating 15 years of fun.
