Published on February 21, 2006 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Alfie Michaud of the Utah Grizzlies is the Rbk
Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for February 13-19.
Michaud, who won the award for Nov. 7-14, becomes only the second two-time
winner this season joining Alaska's Chris Beckford-Tseu, who has won the
award three times.
The 29-year-old was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals against of 1.00 and a
save percentage of .962 to help the Grizzlies extend their winning streak
to seven games while improving their record to 29-19-4.
After stopping 24 of 26 shots in a 4-2 win against Stockton on Feb. 15, the
5-foot-10 and 177-pound netminder made 28 saves in a 5-0 win at Las Vegas
on Feb. 18 for his second shutout of the season. The Grizzlies are the only
team this season to win twice at Las Vegas and only the second team this
year to beat the Wranglers at home in regulation and Michaud has been in
net for both of the wins. It was the 18th career professional shutout and
11th career ECHL shutout for Michaud, who led the league in 2004-05 with
six shutouts.
Michaud is 5-0-0 with a shutout, a goals against of 1.58 and a save
percentage of .944 in his last five starts to improve to 16-8-2 while
ranking 11th in the ECHL with a goals against of 2.84 in 28 games.
Prior to joining Utah, Michaud spent two seasons with Peoria of the ECHL,
going 27-13-5 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .929 save percentage
and a league-leading six shutouts in 2004-05. In 2002-03 he was named ECHL
goaltender of the year, posting a record of 20-4-4 and leading the league
with a 2.10 goals-against average and recording a .927 save percentage.
The native of Selkirk, Manitoba has also played in the ECHL with Reading
and has played in the American Hockey League with Syracuse, Manitoba and
Worcester where he has a career record of 28-27-6 and career goals against
of 2.68 in 72 games. He played three years for the University of Maine and
