Buffalo Bisons News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - The Buffalo Bisons were able to win their second straight game with a 9-4 victory over the Syracuse Mets after a lengthy rain delay on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The Bisons were able to score a pair of runs in the opening inning after a 1:14 rain delay that pushed back the game's first pitch. Rafael Lantigua led off the game with a base hit and scored on a bases loaded walk to Tanner Morris for a 1-0 lead. Mason McCoy's first RBI of the night was produced on single to left field scoring Addison Barger, giving the Herd a 2-0 advantage after a half inning.
Lantigua belted a solo home run with two outs in the top of the second frame to extend Buffalo's advantage to 3-0 after an inning and a half. The homer was the second in as many days for the utilityman and came off of Mets' starter Joey Lucchesi.
Buffalo's lead ballooned to 4-0 in the top of the third frame thanks to a lead-off double by Orelvis Martinez. He would score three batters later on a McCoy RBI fielder's choice. McCoy added his third RBI of the night with a base hit in the top of the fifth inning for Buffalo.
His third RBI of the night helped the Herd extend the lead back out to three runs following the Mets tallying against the Bisons pitching staff. Syracuse scored one run in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the fourth to trim the deficit to 4-3.
However, Luis De Los Santos produced a run on a one-out double giving Buffalo a 5-3 lead. That was followed up by McCoy two batters later for a 6-3 advantage. The Mets would get one run back and trail 6-4 but failed to score the rest of the night.
Barger's RBI single in the top of the seventh scored Lantigua for a 7-4 lead. Buffalo added two in the top of the seventh for the five-run lead over the Mets. Cameron Eden was credited with his 42nd RBI of the season on a bases loaded walk, and Lantigua hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring 9-4.
The Bisons have secured the season series victory and will look for their third straight win when they take on Syracuse for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Friday night.
