Louisville Bats News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Jason Vosler turned in three hits to help lead the Louisville Bats (63-55) to an exciting 9-8 series finale win over the Iowa Cubs (68-49) on Sunday afternoon.

After a quiet first inning, the Bats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Jason Vosler kicked the inning with his third home run of the week to put Louisville ahead 1-0. Jhonny Pereda and Drew Mount followed with back-to-back singles before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Siani. Alejo Lopez brought both runners in to score with a two-out single to extend the Bats lead to 3-0.

The I-Cubs answered in the third, scoring two runs to cut the Louisville lead to one as the Bats continued to lead 3-2. Iowa continued to add runs over the next three innings, scoring two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 5-2 advantage.

Louisville started to rally the top of the seventh. With one out in the inning, Matt Reynolds laced a double to right field before coming home on a single off the bat of Vosler, cutting the I-Cubs lead to one, down 4-5. The Bats continued the rally in their next at-bat. Mount led off the inning with a hit by pitch followed by a Curt Casali single to get the first two men on base. In the next at-bat, Chuckie Robinson blasted a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right center field for his tenth home run of the season, retaking the lead for the Bats 7-5.

Iowa tacked on another run in bottom of the eighth, cutting the lead back to one at 7-6.

In the top of the ninth, Nick Senzel and Vosler tallied back-to-back singles before both moved into scoring position with a double steal. Jhonny Pereda followed with a single of his own to bring home Senzel. Mount immediately followed with a sacrifice fly deep to left field to bring in Vosler and extend the Bats lead to 9-6.

The I-Cubs made it interesting and put up two runs of their own in the bottom of the ninth, but Daniel Duarte (4-0, 3.44) worked out of the jam to secured the win for the Bats and earn his sixth save of the season.

The Louisville Bats will enjoy an off day on Monday before returning home to kick off a six-game home stand against the Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday, August 22. First pitch in game one is set for 6:35 pm E.T. at Louisville Slugger Field.
