Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons wrapped up their six-game series with the Syracuse Mets on Sunday afternoon with a 7-4 loss. With the loss, Buffalo finishes the week with a 2-4 record for the week.
In a back and forth affair, The Bisons would strike first in the bottom of the 1st thanks to some productive plate appearances right off the bat. A leadoff double by Otto Lopez immediately gave Buffalo a runner in scoring position with no outs. He would reach home two batters later on a groundout by Nathan Lukes and a sac fly by the team's leader in RBIs, Davis Schneider. That would be Schneider's 41st RBI of the season.
It wouldn't take long for Syracuse to respond, however. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs for the Mets in the top of the 3rd. An RBI groundout by Ronny Mauricio and a two-RBI double by Luke Voit quickly turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead for Syracuse.
This would mark the end of the afternoon for Bisons starter Wes Parsons. Parsons threw 65 pitches over three innings of work while allowing three earned runs and striking out six Syracuse batters.
Buffalo would answer the Mets top of the 3rd with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game once again. The Bisons would get a pair of runners into scoring position without getting a hit. Jordan Luplow drew a one-out walk while Wynton Bernard was hit by a pitch and a wild pitch by Syracuse starter Jose Butto advanced them to second and third.
Luis De Los Santos would eventually deliver a two-out, two-RBI double to drive in Luplow and Bernard, giving De Los Santos nine RBIs with the Bisons.
The game would then become a pitcher's duel for the next three innings. From the top of the 4th to the end of the 6th, there was only one hit, a triple by Lukes, his first of the season.
Hagen Danner did a terrific job in his two innings of work for the Bisons. He would retire all six Syracuse batters he faced. Stephen Ridings also was lights out for the Mets, earning his first win of the season while striking out all three batters he faced.
Unfortunately for Buffalo, Syracuse awoke from their slumber sooner than they did. A wild pitch by Jimmy Burnette gave the Mets a runner in scoring position and they took full advantage. Consecutive RBI singles by Danny Mendick and Mauricio put the Mets back on top 5-3. That would be Mauricio's second RBI of the game and 41st of the season.
The problem continued for the Bisons after Burnette exited as a sac fly with the bases loaded by Carlos Cortes followed by an RBI single by Nick Meyer increased Syracuse's lead to 7-3. Jordan Luplow's 4th home run of the season made the final score a little closer but wouldn't ultimately change the outcome.
Dennis Santana would lock down his third save of the season to preserve the victory for Syracuse.
Following an off day on Monday, the Bisons will hit the road for a six-game series with Scranton. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for Tuesday's 6:35 p.m. ET first pitch.
