Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - A Drew Ellis three-run homer in the seventh inning turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-33) as they downed the Toledo Mud Hens (30-38) on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
Toledo was off and running early, loading the bases with nobody out in the first. After a flyout, Andre Lipcius and Andrew Knapp followed with RBI singles to put Toledo ahead 2-0.
The IronPigs halved the deficit in the third as Jake Cave belted his 11th homer of the season, a solo shot, to make it 2-1.
The game stayed at 2-1 until the seventh. With two outs, Dalton Guthrie walked and Cave followed with a base hit. Ellis then stepped up and hit a laser out to left, his sixth of the year, vaulting the IronPigs ahead 4-2.
Ben Bowden (S, 1) fired a perfect ninth inning to secure the save for the IronPigs, striking out two.
Jeremy Walker (5-0) collected the win in relief for the IronPigs, retiring the only batter he faced with a groundout.
Aneurys Zabala (3-2) suffered the loss for the Mud Hens, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks, striking out four in 1.2 innings.
Following an off-day on Monday, the IronPigs hit the road to start a six-game series against the Worcester Red Sox on Tuesday, June 20. First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 6:45 p.m. from Polar Park.
