Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers won for the 11th consecutive game Sunday afternoon, sweeping the Columbus Clippers in the process with a 6-4 win at Werner Park.
Omaha jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, as John Rave singled and Jermaine Palacios connected on a two-run homer, his first hit with the Storm Chasers, for a 2-0 lead.
The run scoring continued into the third inning, as Angelo Castellano doubled to open the frame and scored on a double from Kyle Isbel. After Logan Porter was hit by a pitch, Rave drove a ball off the left-center field fence and circled the bases for an inside-the-park three-run homer that put Omaha up 6-0 in the bottom of the third.
James McArthur pitched as the opener for the Storm Chasers, firing 2.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts, before handing the ball off to the "bulk" pitcher, Jonathan Heasley (2-5).
Heasley pitched into the seventh inning and allowed four runs over 4.1 innings of work, while striking out five to earn his second win of the season.
Walter Pennington came in behind Heasley and stranded an inherited runner to finish off the seventh inning, then Dylan Coleman worked a 1-2-3 eighth with a strikeout to keep the Chasers ahead by two.
In the ninth, Collin Snider allowed a leadoff double, but stranded the runner on third and earned his first save of the season, protecting the two-run lead.
After his homer in the third, Rave added another single in the fifth and a double in the seventh, finishing the day 4-for-4 and a triple shy of the cycle. While he didn't score a run, Brewer Hicklen finished the day 3-for-4 with four singles and both Isbel and Palacios contributed tow-hit efforts.
With 11 consecutive wins, the Storm Chasers tie the franchise record winning streak of 11 games, previously set by the Omaha Royals from May 1 to 11, 1993.
After a day off Monday, Omaha opens a six-game series with Rochester beginning at 5:45 p.m. CT Tuesday.
