Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY- Nick Martini homers for his second straight game as the Louisville Bats (37-30) are outslugged 12-5 by the St. Paul Saints (40-28).
St. Paul struck first in the opening frame with a pair of sacrifice flies to make the score 2-0 entering the bottom of the first.
The Bats got a run back in the second after Nick Martini led the inning off with a home run to bring the score to 2-1. After Michael Siani drew a two-out walk and stole second base, Eric Yang brought Siani home with an RBI double in his first start of the year with Louisville. A walk to Alejo Lopez and a St. Paul fielding error which allowed Jose Barrero to reach safely loaded the bases for Joey Votto, who brought home another run after being hit by a pitch and gave Louisville a 3-2 lead.
The Saints took control of the game in the top of the third, grabbing a 7-3 lead behind five runs on four hits with some help from a Bats defensive error. A two-run double in the following frame would extend their lead to 9-3.
Louisville right hander Kevin Herget (0-3,10.66) couldn't escape the long third inning. He would go 2.2 innings and strike out three St. Paul batters while surrendering seven runs on five hits.
After St. Paul struck for another run in the fifth, the Bats threatened with two outs in the bottom of the inning. Christian Encarnacion-Strand was hit by a pitch and came around to score after a walk to Nick Martini and an RBI single from Henry Ramos. Martini would also score on the play after an error from St. Paul, which allowed Ramos to reach third as the Bats cut the lead to 10-5.
Two more Saints runs came across in the top of the sixth, bringing the score to 12-5 which would hold for the rest of the game.
The Bats will travel to Charlotte for a six-game series against the Knights beginning Tuesday, June 20th as RHP Levi Stoudt (2-2, 4.19) is expected to take the mound for the Bats.
