Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY. - Locked in a 1-1 tie, the Indianapolis Indians plated six runs in the top of the eighth inning to rally for the 7-1 victory over the Louisville Bats on Monday night. Wyatt Mathisen delivered the go-ahead single as a pinch hitter.
The eighth-inning rally began with one out. Jordan Luplow grounded a ball to Louisville (32-47) shortstop Blake Trahan, but he misplayed it and allowed Luplow to reach. After an infield hit and a walk, Mathisen pulled a ball through the left side for a single. Luplow scored on the play, and Kevin Kramer scored on a miscue by left fielder Phillip Ervin.
With the lead obtained, Indianapolis (44-37) added insurance later in the inning. Eric Wood and Sean Rodriguez each added two-run doubles to give the game its final margin of 7-1. It was Rodriguez's first game with the Indians, as he joined the team prior to the game on a rehab assignment from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Casey Sadler (4-3) entered the game in the sixth when it was tied and inherited a pair of base runners. He induced a one-pitch out and then worked a scoreless seventh to earn the win. Josh Smoker retired six of the seven batters he faced to finish out the game. Tribe starter Alex McRae went five and two-thirds innings. He conceded just one run and fanned five.
Brandon Finnegan (2-7) began the eighth out of the Bats' bullpen and was handed the loss. Starter Jose Lopez dueled with McRae and left after six frames.
Indy will wrap-up the nine-game road trip tomorrow at 6:30, then return to Victory Field for Independence Day. To purchase tickets for any Indians home game, contact the Victory Field Box Office at 317-269-2282 or Tickets@IndyIndians.com. For more on the Tribe, visit IndyIndians.com.
