International League Names Player of the Month
July 2, 2018 - International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Charlotte pitcher Donny Roach has been named the League's Player of the Month for June. Along with winners from other leagues, Roach will be presented with an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of his performance last month.
Donny Roach went undefeated during the month of June, winning each of his five starts and posting an ERA of just 0.98. When he surrendered two earned runs in Charlotte's 10-4 victory at Buffalo on June 1, it marked the most recent time to date he has been scored upon more than once in a game. He allowed a total of just three runs over his next five appearances, one of which was an odd 2.0-inning relief outing on June 24 that resulted from a Miguel Gonzalez rehab start. He closed out his remarkable month in style three days later, as just hours after being named to the International League All-Star Team he tossed a season-high 8.0 innings of one-run baseball while Charlotte cruised past Durham 5-1. For the season, Roach now leads the International League with nine wins and is 3rd in ERA
(2.65). He is the first member of the Charlotte Knights to capture IL Player of the Month honors since slugger Andy Wilkins in July of 2014.
28-year-old Donny Roach is in his first season in the White Sox organization after signing as a free agent in February. The veteran of 21 big league games with the Padres, Cubs, and Mariners spent the 2017 season playing in Korea. Roach is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada.
