Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - Brandon Snyder drove in a career-high seven runs to lead the Durham Bulls to 14-3 rout of the Gwinnett Stripers to open a two-game series on Monday night at the DBAP.

Durham's offense exploded in the first four innings against Gwinnett's starter Michael Mader (L, 1-1) and reliever Andres Santiago, recording 11 runs on 12 hits.

Kean Wong opened the home half of the first with a bunt single and later scored, on the first of seven RBI for Snyder, all a part of a three-run, four-hit opening frame giving the Bulls a 3-0 lead.

Snyder stepped to the plate with runners in scoring position in each of his five plate appearances, driving in runs on a bases-loaded walk, single, double, and a two-run home run.

Durham added to its lead in the second, third, and fourth innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Snyder in the third and capped by a solo home run by Andrew Velazquez in the fourth, extending its lead to 11-0.

Rob Refsnyder drilled his first home run with the Bulls in the bottom of the eighth inning, extending the lead to 12-0. Refsnyder finished with three hits and two walks in six plate appearances. Later in the frame following a single by Jason Coats, Snyder drilled a two-run home run setting a new career-high with seven RBI and extending the lead to 14-0.

Zach Lee (W, 2-1) earned a win in his second consecutive start since being assigned to the Bulls from Montgomery on May 26. Lee held the Stripers to three hits over 7.1 innings, tossing 104 pitches, with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Stripers broke their silence in the ninth, as Sean Kazmar Jr. ended the shutout with a solo homer, marking his first home run of the year. Following a single by Carlos Franco, Rob Brantly launched his second homer of the year cutting the lead to 14-3.

The Bulls hit in double figures for the third consecutive game and score in double digits for the third time in the last five games. They had at least one hit in eight of nine innings and hit two homers in one inning for the eighth time this season and the first time since the third inning on June 21 at Louisville.

The Durham Bulls (48-34) and the Gwinnett Stripers (35-48) cap this two-game set Tuesday evening at the DBAP with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Chih-Wei Hu (3-6, 4.84) is scheduled to start for the Bulls against Lucas Sims (4-2, 2.64) for the Stripers.
