Today's Game
This evening, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the first game of a two-game series. Following July 3rd's Independence Day Eve celebration at Coca-Cola Field, the Bisons will head to Moosic, PA for two games against the RailRiders July 4 and 5. The Herd will then host the Syracuse Chiefs for a weekend series before heading into the All-Star Break.
Last Game: BUF 4, SYR 1
The Bisons salvaged the last game of the series against the Chiefs on Sunday. RHP Sean Reid-Foley tossed his fifth quality start of the season in a Bison uniform. The righty threw six shutout innings giving up two hits and one walk while striking out five. INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. led the offense for the Herd going 3-5 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (4-2)
The last series between the Bisons and RailRiders came at Coca-Cola Field. The Herd swept the three-game series May 18-20, outscoring their division rival 18 to 6. INF Jason Leblebijian is 5-12 (.417) with two home runs in five games this season against Scranton. 1B Rowdy Tellez has collected nine hits in 22 at-bats in six games (.409).
Today's Starter: RHP Chris Rowley
RHP Chris Rowley is making his team-leading fifteenth start of the season tonight. Rowley has never started more than fourteen games in a season in his minor league career. In his last start on June 27, the righty tossed a season-high eight innings while allowing one run in the victory against Pawtucket.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 3-5 in the win on Sunday. The infielder drove in two of the team's four runs on the day. Gurriel Jr. is 5-19 (.263) with four runs scored and four runs batted in in his last four games.
Dwight Smith Jr.
OF Dwight Smith Jr. collected two hits in four at-bats on Sunday. The speedy outfielder also added his seventh stolen base of the season. In his last eight games, Smith Jr. is 8-28 (.286) with four walks.
Rhiner Cruz
RHP Rhiner Cruz earned his first save of the season on Sunday. Since being activated off the Disabled List on June 10, the righty is 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA in six games (8.2 IP).
Transactions
On Monday, INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays. LHP Matt Tracy was assigned to the Bisons from the GCL Blue Jays on Sunday.
Bisons' Bits
Buffalo leads the International League in stolen bases with 74 as a team. That is eight better than Indianapolis, who has 66 in 2018...OF Roemon Fields sits alone in third place in the Modern Era with 60 career stolen bases. He trails Dave Roberts (97) and Greg Tubbs (67)...C Danny Jansen's .299AVG is the eighth best in the IL entering Monday.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (39-44) dropped the third game of the series, losing 9-1 against the Detroit Tigers. OF Teoscar Hernandez scored the lone Blue Jay run. LHP Ryan Borucki looks to take the series as he faces RHP Mike Fiers (1:07 p.m.). The New York Mets will play two games at Rogers Centre before a scheduled off day on Thursday. Toronto then closes out a nine-game, ten day homestand against the Yankees July 6-8.
