Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs homered four times to defeat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9-4 Monday at Coca-Cola Park.

The Pigs offense was paced by Joey Meneses who blasted his 15th home run of the year in the third inning. Meneses was one of four Pigs to reach base three times in the contest. Dean Anna had a pair of hits and a walk and Mitch Walding singled twice, walked and drove in a run.

Trevor Plouffe jump-started the offense with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1. Plouffe reached two more times on a single and a walk.

A five-run top of the fourth inning for the Chiefs against Drew Anderson (5-3) put the visitors ahead. A grand slam by Chris Dominguez retook the lead for Syracuse after the Pigs had taken their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third. The Chiefs added another run on a solo home run by Andrew Stephenson to cap off the rally and put the Chiefs up 6-3.

The teams combined to homer six times, which matches a season-high for the IronPigs.

Zac Curtis tossed a career high 2 1/3 innings and allowed one run. Tyler Gilbert, Tom Windle and Pedro Beato each added an inning of relief for the Pigs.

Carlos Torres (2-1) did not allow a hit in an inning and a third of relief while striking out three. David Gofroth provided two inning to bridge to Jimmy Cordero who came on to pitch the ninth. The bullpen limited Lehigh Valley to just two hits in the final four plus innings of the game.

The Pigs wrap up their portion of the home-and-home Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Tom Eshelman takes the ball for the IronPigs against Brady Dragmire. The Pigs will hold a Stars and Stripes cap raffle during the game. Stick around after the final pitch for Patriotic 3-D fireworks.
