(NORFOLK, VA) - Catcher Seby Zavala singled home two runs in the top of the first inning, but that was all the Charlotte Knights could muster in a 3-2 loss to the Norfolk Tides on Monday in the opening game of a two-game series from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA.

RHP Spencer Adams started for Knights and was sharp over six innings of work. The 22-year-old allowed just one run on six hits over six innings and left the game with a 2-1 lead. Adams, who struck-out four batters and threw 82 pitches (52 for strikes), did not factor in the decision.

With the Knights ahead by a score of 2-1, RHP Gregory Infante (2-4, 5.33) came on in the seventh inning. Infante, who was saddled with the loss after he allowed both of Norfolk's two runs over the final two innings, first allowed a sacrifice-fly RBI to DJ Stewart in the seventh inning. With the game now tied at 2-2, Infante then allowed a go-ahead RBI single to Renato Nunez in the eighth inning.

Norfolk RHP Tim Melville (6-6, 6.23) earned the win out of the bullpen, while former Charlotte reliever Jhan Mariñez earned his 10th save of the season for the Tides. LHP John Means started for the Tides and allowed two runs over seven solid innings. He did not factor in the decision.

Offensively, the Knights strung together five hits on the evening. Second baseman Jake Elmore went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to extend his International League leading on-base streak to 25 consecutive games. Elmore's streak is the third longest streak in the IL this season.

The Knights will conclude the quick two-game series from Harbor Park against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) on Tuesday. Pre-game radio coverage of Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
