Admirals Take 2-Of-3 Last Week

OVERALL...The Admirals enter the final week of October with a 3-2-1-1 record and eight points, which is good for a fifth place tie in the West division. The Admirals had a four game point streak (2-0-1-1) snapped against Chicago yesterday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to the Wolves. The Admirals completed their first three-in-three this past weekend and have four days off before making their lone trip of the year out to Abbotsford for a pair of games with the Heat next weekend.

LAST WEEK...On Friday night Linus Klasen's goal with just under 15 minutes to play in the game broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Admirals a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids at the Van Andel Arena. Milwaukee also received goals from Jamie Lundmark and Andreas Thuresson while Mark Dekanich turned aside 24 of 26 shots to earn the win. Then Saturday night the Admirals potted a goal in each period, each by a different player, to cruise to a 3-1 win over Abbotsford. Dekanich earned the win again, this time turning back 23 of 24 attempts. On Sunday afternoon the Admirals fell behind Chicago 4-0 after two periods before rallying for three in the third, but they couldn't find the equalizer and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Wolves. Klasen, Thuresson, and Gabriel Bourque scored for the Ads.

SWEDISH FUN...Admirals winger Linus Klasen continued his impressive start to his North American career last week, posting a goal and an assist in each of the Ads games and earning Reebok/AHL Player of the Week honors for his efforts. On Friday night the Stockholm native was selected as the first start after he scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the Ads first goal in a 3-2 win at Grand Rapids. Saturday night against Abbotsford Klasen redirected a Brett Palin shot for his sixth of the season just 21 seconds after the Heat had cut the Admirals lead to one as Milwaukee took a 3-1 decision and Sunday afternoon he helped jump started a dormant Admirals offense with a goal and an assist in the team's three-goal third period. On the season Klasen paces the AHL with seven goals and is tied for seventh in the league with ten points.

THE FIRST TIME...Admirals left wing Gabriel Bourque picked up his first professional goal on Sunday against Chicago the day after posting his first pro point, an assist on the game-winning goal in Milwaukee 3-1 win over Abbotsford. Bourque's goal came at the 3:22 mark of the third period and cut the Admirals deficit to two, but the Ads couldn't complete the comeback, falling 4-3. He split the 2009-10 season between Baie-Comeau and Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, posting 52 points (16g-36a) and 98 penalty minutes in 55 games. A 5-9, 185-pound left wing, he also earned a silver medal with Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships, where he tied for seventh in the tournament in assists (6) and tied for 11th in points (9).

WELCOME TO MILWAUKEE...Center Jamie Lundmark didn't wait long to contribute to the Ads offense, scoring the team's first goal in both the games he has played, Friday in Grand Rapids and Saturday against Abbotsford. Lundmark had been on injured reserve to start the season after getting hurt in exhibition play with Nashville. He split the 2009-10 season between the Calgary and Toronto organizations, posting nine points (5g-4a) in 21 games with the Flames and 21 points (9g-12a) in 32 games with their AHL affiliate in Abbotsford before being claiming on waivers by the Leafs on Feb. 16. He posted three points (1g-2a) in 15 outings with Toronto. In 295 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Phoenix, Calgary, Los Angeles and Toronto since 2002, the Edmonton, Alta., native has 99 points (40g-59a). The 6-0, 197-pounder has 227 points (88g-139a) in 306 American Hockey League games as well.

QUICK TRIP...The Predators have reassigned defenseman Teemu Laakso to the Admirals, just three days have they recalled him. Laakso made his season debut with Nashville in the Predators 1-0 victory at Dallas on Saturday night. He returns to Milwaukee where he's posted four assists in five games. The Tuusula, Finland native began the 2009-10 campaign with the Predators, playing his first seven NHL games before being assigned to the American Hockey League for the remainder of the season on Oct. 20. Nashville's second choice, 78th overall (third round), in 2005 Entry Draft also has 26 points (6g-20a) in 93 AHL games since coming to North America for the 2008-09 season.

LET THE GAME BEGIN...The Predators signed NHL veteran and former AHL Playoff MVP Steve Begin, pronounced bey-ZHIN, and assigned him to the Admirals. The Trois-Rivieres, QE native played his first game as an Admiral yesterday against Chicago, finishing the game with an assist and a pair of penalty minutes. Begin has played 486 career NHL games since 1997-98, posting 100 points (52g-48a) and 535 penalty minutes. He spent the 2009-10 season with the Boston Bruins, posting 14 points (5g-9a) and 53 penalty minutes while playing a career-high 77 games. Selected 40th overall (second round) by Calgary in the 1996 Entry Draft, Begin spent parts of six seasons with the Flames (1997-2003) before joining his home-province Montreal Canadiens from 2003 being traded to the Dallas Stars in 2009.
