Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY (October 25, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Crunch Foundation, the club's charitable arm, is partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Upstate Cancer Center to host 'Pink in the Rink,' a breast cancer awareness night, as the team takes on the Albany Devils on Saturday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m.
In honor of breast cancer awareness month, fans are encouraged to wear pink to this Saturday's October 30 game vs. Albany. Fans are also encouraged to visit Memorial Hall on the first floor of the concourse for special 'Pink in the Rink' activities hosted by the Crunch Foundation.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, the Crunch Foundation will sell one hundred (100) pink mystery pucks. For only $10, fans will have the opportunity to purchase pink bags, containing one limited edition pink puck autographed by a 'mystery' Crunch player.
In addition, the Crunch Foundation will hold a silent auction in Memorial Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. through the second intermission. Items to be auctioned include pink New Era caps autographed by Crunch players and pink game-worn neck ties autographed by Head Coach Mark Holick and Assistant Coach Mike Stapleton. Proceeds from both the pink 'mystery puck' fundraiser and silent auction will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Upstate Cancer Center.
The Central New York Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community joining more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen Central New York Race for the Cure©, the Central New York Affiliate has invested $4 million in community breast health programs in our 17-county service area. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in the local community. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. For more information, call (315) 472-6162 or visit www.komencny.org.
Already known for its #1 cancer-fighting program, Upstate Medical University is striking even harder at this formidable enemy by building a five-story center of diagnosis, treatment and hope. Opening in 2013, the Upstate Cancer Center will offer the very best outpatient care and treatment for cancer and blood disorders in a unified, patient-focused, state-of-the-art facility. It will be the only comprehensive cancer center serving a 17-county region providing care for all ages, child through adult.
The Crunch Foundation strives to strengthen and broaden the impact of the Syracuse Crunch in the Central New York region by providing funds to non-profit groups and by supporting educational and community programs. For tickets to 'Pink in the Rink' or for more information, contact the Crunch office at (315) 473-4444.
The Crunch travel to Hamilton on Wednesday, October 27 to face the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Syracuse returns home to face Hershey on Friday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
