Pirates Recap
Riding the momentum of strong play on home-ice, the Pirates have obtained first place in the Atlantic Division. Shining brightest during the week was the brilliant goaltending of David Leggio. Leggio earned two victories in as many starts to keep the Pirates home record perfect.
Leggio stopped 35 shots and stood tall through nine rounds of a shootout, to lead Portland to a 3-2 victory over Manchester on Tuesday. Friday night in Springfield did not yield the result the Pirates were looking for as the Falcons scored six unanswered goals to bury Portland by a 6-2 margin. Capping off the week, the largest home crowd of the season (5,505) was sent home happy as Leggio again was on top of his game with 36 saves in a 2-1 Pirates victory on the third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Maine Medical Center.
The team will be heading south this week for a four-game roadtrip to Virginia and North Carolina to take on the East Division's Norfolk Admirals and Charlotte Checkers, and will be back home November 5th when the Adirondack Phantoms come to town.
