Bulldogs Look For Wins With Two Home Games This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will look to snap their three-game losing streak with two home games against the Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks), and the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) this week. Syracuse will travel to Copps Coliseum on Wednesday, October 27th to face-off against the 'Dogs at 7:00 PM. The Bulldogs will then host the Toronto Marlies on Friday, October 29th for a 7:00 PM game.

On Tuesday, October 19th, the 'Dogs opened up a busy week, beginning at Copps Coliseum against North Division rival, the Rochester Americans. Hamilton took a 3-0 lead heading into the third period with goals from, Yannick Weber, Alexander Avtsin, and Mathieu Carle. Kenndal McArdle, and Michael Duco of the Amerks potted goals in the third, while the 'Dogs responded with Yannick Weber potting his second of the game, and Andrew Conboy netting one to make it a 5-2 victory for Hamilton. The Bulldogs then traveled to Winnipeg to take-on the Manitoba Moose, in consecutive games on Thursday, October 21st, and Friday, October 22nd. The first contest saw the 'Dogs defeated 4-3 in a shootout by the Moose. Brendon Nash, Yannick Weber, and Andreas Engqvist scored for the 'Dogs. The second meeting in as many nights was also forced into a shootout. Yannick Weber, David Desharnais, and Gabriel Dumont scored for the 'Dogs but it was not enough, as Hamilton lost a second shootout game by a score of 4-3. The final game of the week saw the Bulldogs travel back to Hamilton to host the Oklahoma City Barons. The contest was the first of two live CBC broadcasts at Copps Coliseum this season. Goals from David Desharnais, and Brendon Nash forced the game into overtime, where Alexandre Giroux of the Barons broke the tie and gave Oklahoma City a 3-2 victory over the 'Dogs.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

- The Bulldogs power play sits third in the league with a 27.6% success rate. They have scored a power-play goal in every game this season

- Defenceman Yannick Weber is currently tied for first among AHL defensemen in points with nine (5G, 4A) even though he's played three fewer games than Shawn Belle, who is tied with Weber with nine points

- Centre David Desharnais and Centre Ben Maxwell are currently on six-game point streaks as they have recorded at least a point in every game this season. Both players have recorded nine points (three goals, six assists) in that span.

- Defenceman Brendon Nash currently sits seventh overall among all AHL rookie skaters in points with six (2G, 4A). He also recorded his first professional hockey league goal on October 21st in a 4-3 losing effort versus the Manitoba Moose

- Goaltender Peter Delmas played in his first-career AHL game recording a making 24 saves on 27 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Manitoba Moose

- C Andreas Engqvist and F Alexander Avtsin recorded their first-career AHL goals this past week. Engqvist scored versus the Moose on Thursday while Avtsin potted his against the Rochester Americans in Tuesday's win

- In their first meeting this season, Toronto defeated Hamilton 5-3.

- The Marlies currently have a 2-4-0-0 record which puts them in last place in the North Division

- Toronto recorded the fewest number of wins in the Western Conference last season but finished 12th out of 14 teams

- The Bulldogs led the Western Conference with 115 points

- Hamilton's all-time record against Toronto is 28-23-0-5-5

Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- St. Louis G Jaroslav Halak made three starts this past week with match-ups against Chicago (October 18 & 22) and Pittsburgh (October 23). He posted a 2-0-1-0 record to help the Blues gain five of a possible six points

- Boston G Tim Thomas leads all goalies in the NHL with a 0.978 save percentage and a 0.75 goals-against-average, he also recorded two victories for the Bruins, leading them past the Capitals (October 19 & 21) 3-1, and 4-1

- Montreal C Tomas Plekanec earned one helper versus the Senators (October 23) and is now tied for the team lead in points on the Canadiens with six (2G, 4A)

- Dallas C Mike Ribeiro tallied one assist in last week's match-up versus the Tampa Bay Lightning (October 18), and has a total of seven points in seven games to start the season

- Montreal LW Andrei Kostitsyn recorded two goals in a victory over the Senators (October 23). He now leads all Canadiens in goals with four, and is tied in points with six (4G, 2A)

- Minnesota LW Antti Miettinen tallied two assists in Minnesota's match-up versus the Canucks (October 18) and a goal versus Vancouver in a rematch (October 22) increasing his season totals to six points (2+4)
