San Antonio Rampage News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League and Corpus Christi Rayz of the Central Hockey League will welcome representatives of the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL to the SBC Center in San Antonio on Friday and American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on Saturday to sell "Hurricane Survivor T-shirts" and raffle tickets for opportunities to win a hockey stick that survived Hurricane Katrina.
Hurricane Katrina forced the team into an extended offseason due to extensive damage inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum flooding the front office, locker rooms, ice making equipment and two Zambonis. The team will return to the ice in October of 2006.
"The situation for the Sea Wolves is very difficult and we want to do what we can to help," said Rick Carden, Rampage director of hockey business operations. "We can't even fathom the challenges that the team and the community face. We felt it is not only a good thing to do, but the right thing. We hope the team does well selling their special Hurricane Survivor T-shirts."
"The Corpus Christi Rayz are happy to help out the Mississippi Sea Wolves in their time of need," said Bryan Elliott, Rayz vice president of hockey operations. "The hockey family is a very unique one and I'm sure they would have helped us if we were in the same situation. We hope our assistance can help them return to the ice as soon as possible, and wish them the best for a full recovery."
"We really appreciate the Rampage and Rayz organizations for giving us the opportunity to fundraise," Sea Wolves general manager Jesse Martin said. "It means a lot that other members of the hockey family are willing to help us get back on the ice."
Sea Wolves will be represented by Martin and director of broadcasting and media relations Mike Kelly.
The Rampage entertain the Cleveland Barons at 7 p.m. on Friday, while the Rayz host the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday beginning at 7:35 p.m.
