Zaba And Waddell Called Up To Hartford

Charlotte, N.C. - The New York Rangers of the National Hockey League have recalled Checkers netminder, Matt Zaba and assigned him to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League. Also, Checkers defenseman, Matt Waddell has been loaned to Hartford.

Zaba, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, signed with the New York Rangers during the off-season this year. The Yorkton, Saskatoon goaltender started the year with the Checkers and has played four games compiling a record of 3-1 with a 3.52 goals against average and a .891 save percentage. He was recalled to Hartford earlier this season but, didn't play in a game.

Waddell, 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, hails from Armstrong, BC and played the last four seasons with Ohio State University in the NCAA. In 11 games played with Charlotte this season, he has no goals and one assists with 15 penalty minutes. This is Waddell's first call up to the American Hockey League.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Nov. 23 against the Texas Wildcatters. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
