Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (10-5-0) won their fourth straight game, and improved to 6-0-0 at home this season thanks to four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game in a 4-2 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots (2-10-1) on Friday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 5,440.

Brad Zancanaro, David Cornacchia, Mathieu Melanson and Brandon Roach gave the Everblades a quick 4-0 lead by scoring their goals in the first 10:15 of the opening period. Zancanaro began the barrage just 52 seconds into the period when his slap shot from the top of the right circle sailed past Pensacola net-minder Mike Brodeur. Cornacchia and Ernie Hartlieb assisted on Zancanaro's fourth goal of the season. Cornacchia then opened a 2-0 lead for the Everblades after chipping home a loose puck from the top of the crease at 2:49 with Melanson and Zancanaro assisting. The helper for Melanson extended his point scoring streak to eight straight games.

The Everblades took advantage of their first two power play opportunities as well. Melanson scored his ninth goal of the season by scooping up a rebound to the left of Brodeur and depositing it into the net at 8:20 of the opening period. Cornacchia logged the first assist by taking the initial shot from the left point that Brodeur stopped, and Hartlieb notched the second assist by feeding the puck back to the veteran defenseman. Roach got in on the fun, tallying his second goal of the season when his slap shot from the right point on the power play fired past Brodeur at 10:15, opening the four-goal lead. Brad Herauf and Jarret Lukin assisted on the tally.

The Ice Pilots responded with the games next two goals, but that was all they could manage against the stingy goaltending of Tyler Plante. Joel Stepp got the Ice Pilots on the board late in the first period, notching his first goal of the season with 25 seconds remaining in the frame. Konstantin Kalmikov made it a 4-2 game when he notched his first goal of the year with five minutes left in the second period of play.

The goaltenders took over in the third period with Plante turning away all 11 shots he faced and Brodeur stopping all 17 shots fired at him by the Everblades.

Plante earned the victory by turning away a total of 33 shots, including 26 over the final two periods, to earn the win and improve his record to 4-2-0, while Brodeur suffered the loss after allowing the four goals on 38 shots which dropped his record to 1-2-0.

On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 2-for-9, while the Ice Pilots finished 0-for-3.
