Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones unbeaten streak ended at seven games, following a 7-5 defeat to the Dayton Bombers on Friday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Greg Labenski's two goal effort led the Bombers attack that wiped out a three-goal Cincinnati lead early in the second period.
The Cyclones opened the scoring 9:37 into the first period, as Jean-Michel Daoust netted his ninth goal of the season with Jimmy Bonneau and David Desharnais adding the assists. Dayton would level the scores 12:42 into the frame, as former Cyclones Greg Labenski picked up his second goal of the campaign on the powerplay. Cincinnati would regain the lead at 16:15, when rookie Mark Matheson, assigned to the club less than 24 hours earlier-collected his first professional goal on the power play from Desharnais and Daoust. The Cincinnati defensive effort was evident as the club outshot the Bombers, 14-2, in the opening 20 minutes.
The second period featured a season-high combined seven goals, with Cincinnati collecting three of them. The Cyclones started the scoring frenzy 51 seconds into the frame when Matt Syroczynski picked up his third goal of the year on the power play from Desharnais and Matheson. Cincinnati opened a 4-1 lead when Travis Fuller netted his fifth of the campaign at 2:13 from Bryan Schmidt and Barret Ehgoetz. Dayton responded with four unanswered goals from Chris Eade, Labenski's second of the night, Ryan Smyth and Mike Berry. Cincinnati knotted the game at 5-5, when Daoust collected his second of the night with 5.6 seconds left in the period from Chad Starling. The Cyclones outshot Dayton, 14-10, in the second period.
The game winning goal came from Dayton's Taylor Christie, 11:34 into the third period, his second of the year. An insurance marker from Masahito Nishiwaki, his second of the campaign with 47 seconds to play. It closed out a 7-5 Bombers win.
Right wing Jean-Michel Daoust extended his consecutive games with a goal streak to nine. Since November 7, Daoust has scored ten goals and eight assists for 18 points during this run.
The Cyclones drop to 10-4-1 on the season, their best record through 15 games in team history. The club is also tied with Elmira for the North Division lead. Dayton improves to 6-6-3 on the season. The two teams meet again Saturday night at 7:30pm at U.S. Bank Arena.
