Texas Wildcatters News Release
Duluth, GA- The Texas Wildcatters asserted their right to the top spot in the South Division with a 3-1 Thanksgiving night victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Danick Bouchard scored the game winner with his team-leading eleventh goal and Wildcatters points leader John McNabb added an insurance goal late in the game to ensure the victory.
With both teams featuring high-powered offensive lineups, goaltenders Peter Aubry of the Wildcatters and Dan Turple of the Gladiators proved stalwart in the first, stopping 10 and 12 shots, respectively, to keep the game scoreless through one period.
Gwinnett (9-3-0-1) got on the board first when Jamie Milam capitalized on a loose puck in front of the net less than a minute into the second frame, snapping it behind Aubry and igniting the 5,143 that opted for hockey over turkey on their holiday.
Texas (10-2-0-3) countered with less than two minutes remaining in the period as Matt Kassian scored his first goal of the season. Moises Gutierrez notched an assist on the marker.
Bouchard, who has scored plenty of clutch goals for the Wildcatters in the first quarter of the season, came through with his eleventh of the year at 3:54 of the third period. Brandon Benedict collected an assist on the goal.
McNabb spoiled any hopes of a late-game Gladiator comeback when he scored the third and final 'Catters goal on a 2-on-0 with Ross Carlson. Bouchard also notched an assist on the play.
Aubry was in top form all evening, making 33 saves in the effort. Turple stopped 26 for Gwinnett.
Both teams were unable to score on the power play, Texas going 0-for-8 and Gwinnett 0-for-9.
The first place Wildcatters continue their road trip tomorrow at 6:35 CST when they visit the Charlotte Checkers (7-2-0-2), listen or watch live by following the B2 Networks link on www.wildcattershockey.com.
