BILOXI, MS - Radek Smolenak scored with four seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game at five and then scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Mississippi Sea Wolves downed the Augusta Lynx 6-5 in a shootout at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday night.
The Sea Wolves got on the board first when Pat Oliveto fired a wrist shot from the right point through traffic at the 1:02 mark of the first period. Augusta answered just two minutes later when Louis Goulet banged home a rebound of a shot from Adrian Veideman past Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce at 3:08 of the first. Mississippi took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after Gio Flamminio's wrist shot beat Marsters through traffic at 16:21.
Bobby Bolt evened the score for Augusta when he banged a rebound past Ryan Munce at 6:09 of the second period. Stan Lascek scored his first goal of the season in his Sea Wolves debut when Matt Deschamps sprung him on a breakaway and he tucked the puck past Marsters to give Mississippi a 3-2 lead at 8:20. Bobby Bolt scored his second of the period to draw Augusta even at 18:14 of the second.
Augusta took a 4-3 lead when Matt Auffrey found the back of the net at 10:31. Lance Monych evened the score at four apiece when he drove the net and put the puck past Marsters for a power-play goal at 14:05 of the third. Augusta retook the lead at 17:17 of the third when John Laliberte picked up the rebound of a shot from Aaron Slattengren and drove it past Munce. Mississippi tied the game at five when Radek Smolenak got the puck in the low slot, made a move to the backhand that drew Marsters out of position and then backhanded the puck past him with four seconds remaining in regulation.
The Sea Wolves killed off two power-plays in overtime, and Radek Smolenak and Lance Monych scored in the shootout to secure the win. Ryan Munce stopped 44 shots in regulation and overtime and all four shooters in the shootout to earn the win.
