
Checkers Add Three Players

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that the team has signed two goaltenders and traded for forward, Mike Falk from Mississippi in exchange for future considerations.
Falk, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, skated 13 games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves this season compiling one goal, three assists for four points with 23 penalty minutes. He started his professional career with the San Diego Gulls after playing four seasons with Bowling Green University in the NCAA. In 127 games for Bowling Green, Falk managed 39 goals, 42 assists for 81 points. Last season, Falk skated with the New Mexico Scorpion Kings playing in 62 games and totaled 27 goals, 29 assists for 56 points with 56 penalty minutes.
Goaltender Len DiCostanzo, 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, hails from Port Jefferson Station, NY. He started his pro career in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) with the Pee Dee Cyclones last season playing 16 games compiling a record of 5-4-2 with a 3.98 goals against average and a .885 save percentage. This year, DiCostanzo dressed in two games for the Mississippi Sea Wolves recording one loss and kept a 5.94 goals against average with a save percentage of .800.
Goaltender A.J. Bucchino, 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, played one game for the Utah Grizzlies and two games for the Jacksonville Barracudas (SPHL) this season. While in Utah, Bucchino made nine saves on 10 shots in twenty minutes of ice time. With the Barracudas, the Bow, NH. native compiled a record of 2-0 holding a 1.00 goals against average with a .985 save percentage. He also played in one game last season with the Augusta Lynx.
The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Nov. 23 against the Texas Wildcatters. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
