Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Marty Flichel (1g, 1a) was one of five skaters to earn multiple points and Aaron Gagnon (1g) scored the game-winner, as the Steelheads scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings in front of 4,029 fans at Qwest Arena on Friday night.

The win snaps the Steelheads (5-4-6) three-game winless streak and pulls them within six points of the Salmon Kings (11-4-0), who were playing without their two top scorers in Milan Gajic and Ash Goldie.

For the second straight game the Salmon Kings scored first on Marc-Andre Bernier's fourth of the season at 6:55 of the first period. Jordan Krestanovich drew the lone helper on Bernier's right circles shot that beat Steelheads' goaltender Kellen Briggs (13 saves) on his blocker side.

Late in the first period the Steelheads responded with two goals in just 13 seconds to tie the match and then take a 2-1 lead. First, Flichel grabbed his own rebound and beat Billy Thompson (31 saves) for his fourth of the campaign. Lance Galbraith got the only assist on the even-strength marker, which snapped Flichel's seven-game goal scoring drought. Moments later, Alexander Naurov rushed into the zone and from the crease he knocked the puck free for Gagnon and he slipped the puck just inside the left post for his fifth of the season. Darrell Hay grabbed the second assist.

In the second period, the Steelheads out-shot the Salmon Kings 20-2 and received goals from Richard Clune, Greg Rallo and Mark Bomersback to blow the game open. At 4:12, Clune netted his first pro goal off a great individual effort, and his left circles snap shot beat Thompson cleanly. Galbraith picked up the only assist. Rallo and Bomersback then registered power play goals a little over four minutes apart to increase the lead to four. Rallo's seventh of the year was set up by Hay and Bomersback, while Bomersback's team-leading 10th came off passes by Rallo and Flichel.

There was no scoring in the third period. The final shots favored the Steelheads 36-14, as the home team got two power play goals in eight chances, marking their eighth straight game with at least one man advantage tally. The Salmon Kings, who had won six in a row and 10 of their previous 11 outings before Friday night, finished zero-for-four on the power play. With the win Briggs is now 2-2-1, while Thompson drops to 4-3-0.

The Steelheads and Salmon Kings conclude their three-game series on Saturday, November 24. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
