Wheeling Nailers News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Wheeling Nailers allowed four third period goals and fell 6-1 to the Johnstown Chiefs Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial. Jean Desrochers and Alexandre Imbeault each had two goals as the Nailers were outshot 42-14.

David Laliberte opened the scoring just 2:50 to give the Nailers a 1-0 lead. As Johnstown goaltender Andrew Penner attempted to clear the puck, Sean Collins intercepted it just before the blue line and slid it to Laliberte for the shot. It was one of just three Wheeling shots in the first period.

Johnstown did not get on the scoreboard until 12:51 of the second period. Mike Knight's initial shot was stopped by Terry Denike but the rebound wound up on the stick of Desrochers for his fifth of the season.

Just 1:27 later, Brian Deeth's shot from the point took a fortuitous bounce as it deflected off a body in front, into the net to give Johnstown the lead for good.

The Chiefs expanded their lead in the third. Imbeault scored twice (0:34 and 11:09) and Desrochers added his second at 15:46 on the power play. Michael Cohen put the final goal in at 18:05.

For the second game in a row, the Nailers were limited to just two power plays going O for 2. The Chiefs were 2 for 6 as the penalty minutes started to accumulate late in the game. Curtiss Patrick fought for the third consecutive game taking on Nicholas Bachand at 14:38 and Gino Pisellini battled Jason Spence less than three minutes later.

The Nailers and Chiefs will go at it again Saturday night, this time in Wheeling at 7:35p.m. The first 2,500 will receive a WesBanco Buck mini-bobblehead. There will also be a Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Toys-for Tots.
