October 30, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Brayden Yager was the hero for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night, scoring in overtime to lead the Warriors past the Medicine Hat Tigers, 4-3, at Mosaic Place.
Yager's team-leading seventh goal of the season came with eight seconds remaining in the extra frame and helped the Warriors snap a four-game losing skid.
Denton Mateychuk picked up an assist on the winner and finished with a goal and two points, while Ryder Korczak also assisted on the winner and posted a goal and three points in the victory.
Korczak opened the scoring for Moose Jaw 7:33 into the game when he scored on the power play.
The game was back-and-forth after that with Medicine Hat tying things up on a shorthanded goal from Carson Hopwo with just under two minutes left in the opening frame.
The Tigers took a 2-1 lead only 1:16 into the second period on a power play goal from Daniel Baker.
Moose Jaw would answer before the period was out however as Eric Alarie scored his second of the season with 2:12 left in the middle period.
The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth in the third until Mateychuk broke up the tie game with a highlight reel goal with 6:02 to play in regulation.
Medicine Hat pulled its goalie and found the equalizer with 1:30 to go in the game as Noah Danielson buried a rebound in front to send the game to overtime.
The Tigers were called for too many men on the ice with 33 seconds left in overtime and the Warriors capitalized with Yager hammering home a one-timer to give them the win.
Carl Tetachuk turned away 28 shots and the Warriors fired 30 shots on the Tigers' net in the win.
Moose Jaw was 2-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Warriors will hit the road for three games next week as they travel to Regina on Wednesday and then head to the Central Division to face Lethbridge on Friday and have a rematch with Medicine Hat on Saturday.
