Game #11 Preview: Blades at Tigers
October 30, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades (7-2-1-0) wrap up a two-in-two trip into Alberta with the finale in Medicine Hat against the Tigers (4-4-1-1).
It's the second of four meetings between these two squads, with Saskatoon coming away with a 4-0 victory on October 15th to open the season series.
They'll battle again on January 21st at SaskTel Centre before convening in Medicine Hat for the closer on January 25th.
Both teams are coming off 4-3 losses - Saskatoon falling in Lethbridge to the Hurricanes to snap a five-game winning streak, and Medicine Hat edged in overtime in Moose Jaw.
Saskatoon's setback was just the second regulation loss of the season and first since the season opener on October 1st in Moose Jaw (7-1).
This is Saskatoon's first trip to Medicine Hat since November 30th, 2019 - a stretch of 700 days - when the Tigers topped the Blades 5-3.
Who to Watch
Forward Jayden Wiens notched his first two goals of the season against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday - the first two-goal night of his career. The Carrot River, SK product is back with the team this season after missing the 2021 hub season, and has five points (2G-3A) in eight games.
Alternate captain Kyle Crnkovic stretched his point-streak to ten games on Friday, scoring the third and final goal for the Blades in Lethbridge. The Chestermere, AB native has the longest active point-streak in the WHL, and is one back of Mikey Milne of the Winnipeg ICE for the longest this season.
Fellow alternate captain Tristen Robins sits tied for the league lead in scoring with 19 points. The San Jose Sharks second rounder has points in eight of nine games this season. Defenceman Charlie Wright picked up two assists on Friday, and is just one back for his career-high in helpers with five on the year.
Look Ahead
It's still more than a week away, but we've had next Saturday circled on the calendar for a while.
