SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - A 10-minute stretch in the second period seemed to turn the game on its head as the Swift Current Broncos (2-6-1-1) dropped a 4-1 game to the Regina Pats (3-7-0-0) Friday night.

The game started off with some quick chances at both ends of the rink and Reid Dyck making some key stops on chances in tight to keep the game scoreless.

Josh Davies opened the scoring on the power play, taking a feed from Connor Hvidston in the slot and beating Matthew Kieper through the five hole 12:04 into the first period.

The Broncos led 1-0 and outshot the Pats 14-13 in the games opening 20 minutes. After a carry-over power play chance to start the second period, the Pats took control of the game.

The Broncos had difficulties exiting their own zone as it seemed any time the puck left the Broncos end, Regina quickly worked it back in and went back on the attack.

After a turnover by the Broncos in the defensive zone, Ryker Evans's shot from the left circle was stopped by Dyck but the rebound popped up in the air and landed in the crease for Zack Stringer to tap it in, tying the game 5:40 into the second period.

Another turnover ended up in the back of the Broncos net less than two minutes later as a stretch pass was intercepted in the neutral zone by Layton Feist.

Feist sent the puck over to Connor Bedard who got a shot through the five hole of Dyck and the rebound was tapped in by Cole Dubinsky to give the Pats the 2-1 lead.

A few minutes after the fight Luke Bateman and Josh Davies dropped the gloves after Davies threw a clean hit in behind the Pats net on the forecheck. Bateman received the extra penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, but the Broncos couldn't capitalize.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the third, the Broncos were given a five-on-three power play chance just six seconds into the final frame, but once again couldn't take advantage as the finished the game one for eight on the power play.

The Pats had a two-man advantage of their own in the late stages of the game and would take advantage, extending their lead as Dubinsky picked up his second of the game on a one timer from the right circle.

Stringer then hit the empty net to seal the game as the Broncos dropped their eighth game in a row.

Swift Current has a quick chance to bounce back as they're on the road in Regina for a rematch against the Pats on Saturday night.

Announced attendance was 1,469.
