
Seattle Pulls Away for 4-1 Win over Chiefs

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs battled throughout but eventually wore down against the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night, losing 4-1.
Spokane controlled most of play in a scoreless first period, outshooting Seattle 11-5. The Thunderbirds finally broke through late in the second as forward Jordan Gustafson scored his fifth of the season to make it 1-0 with 2:11 left in the frame. They added on a second at 19:23 as Mekai Sanders scored his first of two goals.
Seattle took advantage of a turnover at 6:55 of the third when veteran centerman Jared Davidson scored unassisted to make it 3-0. The T-Birds extended the lead to four at 14:37 as Sanders potted his second.
The Chiefs avoided the shutout late as defenseman Graham Sward scored his first career shorthanded goal, ripping the puck inside the left post with assists to Cordel Larson and team captain Jack Finley.
Rookie goalie Manny Panghli made his first start of the season for the Chiefs and was solid, turning aside 26 of 30 shots faced. Scott Ratzlaff went 28-for-29 for the Thunderbirds, earning his second win of the year. Spokane finished 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Spokane remains at home to face the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night at Spokane Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
