Worcester Red Sox News Release
NORFOLK, VA - For the second time this season, the Worcester Red Sox (45-42) were swept in a doubleheader, dropping both games to the Norfolk Tides (43-44) at Harbor Park on Thursday by 2-1 and 11-3 finals respectively.
The WooSox opened the scoring in game one on a Christin Stewart solo home run in the fourth inning. Norfolk tied it in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a fielder's choice from Rylan Bannon.
In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and the winning run at second base, Terrin Vavra lined an opposite-field, run-scoring single to win the game for the Tides in walk-off fashion.
Brian Keller started game one for Worcester. For a third-straight start, Keller tossed five innings. He allowed one run on four hits, while walking two and striking out five. Over his last nine appearances, Keller has posted a 1.67 ERA.
In game two, both teams were scoreless through four frames. Norfolk erupted for seven runs against the Worcester bullpen in the fifth inning, sending eleven batters to the plate in the frame.
With the bases loaded in the sixth, Pedro Castellanos hit an infield single to bring home a run. Nick Sogard lined a two-run double down the third-base line to make it a 7-3 Norfolk lead.
The Tides plated four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 11-3.
In his return from the big leagues, Connor Wong doubled home a run in the seventh inning.
Worcester is now 1-2-3 in doubleheaders.
The WooSox continue their six-game series with the Tides tomorrow night at Harbor Park. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and throughout the WooSox Radio Network.
