ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints entered play Thursday night having allowed a home run in eight straight games. They weren't able to snap the streak, giving up four home runs and allowing seven runs with two outs in a 10-1 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens at CHS Field in front of 7,119.
Jodran Balazovic got the start for the Saints and retired the first two men in the first before the next four hitters reached. With two outs and nobody on Daz Cameon walked. Josh Lester singled to right-center moving Cameron to second. Back-to-back RBI singles from Jamie Westrbook and Kerry Carpenter gave the Mud Hens a 2-0 lead.
The Mud Hens doubled their run output in the second once again with two outs. Balazovic lasted 2.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one.
In the third the Saints got on the board courtesy of Miguel Sanó. With one out Spencer Steer drew a walk. With two outs and Steer at second, Sanó lined an RBI single into right making it 4-1. Sanó finished the night 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
Saints reliever Yennier Cano kept the Saints in the game tossing 2.0 perfect innings of relief while fanning one.
The Mud Hens, however, got to Ariel Jurado as they grabbed the run back in the fifth courtesy of a solo home run to left by Daz Cameron, his fourth of the season, increasing the lead to 5-1.
In the sixth, the Mud Hens continued to add to their lead. Back-to-back walks started the inning. A fielder's choice put runners at the corners and a sacrifice fly from Jack López made it 6-1. A two-run homer by Sanchez, his sixth of the season, put the Mud Hens up 8-1.
The Mud Hens hit their fourth home run of the night in the eighth to widen the gap.
