IronPigs Bounce Back on Thursday

(Charlotte, N.C.) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (46-41) were able to break up their three-game losing streak on Thursday evening as they defeated the Charlotte Knights (33-54) 8-3.

Dalton Guthrie put Lehigh Valley on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning. Guthrie hit a sacrifice fly against John Parke (2-9) that gave the IronPigs a 1-0 lead. Charlotte answered against Kent Emanuel (1-1) in the bottom of the third inning as Mark Payton hit his 12th home run of the season.

Chris Sharpe hit an RBI double against Parke in the top of the fourth inning to give Lehigh Valley a 2-1 lead. Scott Kingery would score on the play. Blake Rutherford tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning as he hit his ninth home run of the season against Emanuel.

Charlotte would jump ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning against Emanuel as Carlos Perez hit a sacrifice fly that scored Yasmani Grandal. Emanuel allowed three runs through five innings with three strikeouts and one walk issued.

The 'Pigs took a 5-3 lead against Parke in the top of the sixth inning. Josh Ockimey hit an RBI double that scored Dustin Peterson and Ali Castillo hit a bunt single that scored Ockimey. Castillo then scored on a groundout by Sharpe. Parke allowed five runs off eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Lehigh Valley extended their lead to 8-3 against Declin Cronin in the top of the eighth inning. Sharpe hit an RBI single that would score Castillo. Donny Sands followed with a two-run single that scored Sharpe and Edgar Cabral.

Joe Gatto pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Emanuel. Jakob Hernandez extended his scoreless inning streak to 15 1/3 innings. James Marvel pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning. Tyler Cyr closed out the game by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

The IronPigs and Charlotte Knights continue their series on Friday evening at Truist Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:04 p.m.
