ABOUT LAST NIGHT: A five-run first inning by Columbus erased a solo homer by Rodolfo Castro in the top half to hand Indianapolis it's first loss of the series last night, 8-3. Following Castro's ninth homer of the season, Richie Palacios tied the game with a run-scoring triple and touched home on a Will Brennan single that put the Clippers on top, 2-1. Miguel Yajure then issued his second walk of the inning ahead of a deep flyout that put runners at second and third base with two down, and Trenton Brooks clubbed an 0-2 pitch off the scoreboard in right for a three-run homer. Columbus' success continued in the third inning. With one away, the Clippers strung together two singles and a walk, and Brooks smacked a ground-rule double to plate two runs. Following a 1:12 rain delay halfway through the fourth inning, Bligh Madris plated the second Indy run with an RBI single. Indy's third run came in the seventh thanks to consecutive singles by Hoy Park and Mason Martin that preceded a passed ball.

CASTRO CATAPULTS ONE: Rodolfo Castro hit a tape-measure solo home run to begin the scoring in the top of the first inning last night, a shot that sailed all the way out of Huntington Park. It was the switch-hitter's ninth longball of the season, five of which have come in his last 19 games. Since June 19, he leads all Indians batters with five home runs, 11 runs scored and is tied with MLB rehabber Yoshi Tsutsugo for a team-high 12 RBI. Castro is also working a hot streak through the month of July, hitting safely in each of his last six games and seven of nine in the month. In that nine-game span, he is hitting .294 (10-for-34) with four extra-base hits.

THE MASTER AT BAT: Cal Mitchell has continued to master opposing pitchers, hitting safely in 17 of his last 18 games with a .371 average (26-for-70), seven doubles and 15 RBI. In Tuesday's series opener, he recorded his fifth three-hit performance and 15th multi-hit game of the season. He's been a hitting machine for the Indians this season, hitting safely in 37 of his 46 Triple-A games with a team-leading .326 average (56-for-172), .494 slugging percentage and .866 OPS. He recorded an 11-game hitting streak from 5/17-7/4, the second-longest streak among Indians batters this season, with a .419 average (18-for-43) and .934 OPS. He also recorded a seven-game RBI streak from 4/5-13, which is the third-longest streak in the International League this season.

MULTI-HIT MADRIS: Bligh Madris went 2-for-4 with an RBI single last night for his 14th multi-hit game this season. He has hit safely in 35 of his 51 games played this season, good for a .299 batting average (53-for-177). Last night was his second multi-hit performance in five games since spending a month in Pittsburgh after making his MLB debut. Prior to having his contract selected on 6/20, he had eight multi-hit performances in 16 June games.

BAE GETS ON BASE: Ji-Hwan Bae cashed in his 25th multi-hit game of the season in Tuesday night's win and followed the performance up with a hit last night. His Tuesday night homer last night put him up to eight home runs on the season, which ties his career-high for most home runs after he hit eight last season between Double-A Altoona (7) and FCL Pirates (1). Bae is the first Indians player to hit eight home runs and collect 20 stolen bases since Alen Hanson in 2016 (8 HR, 36 SB) and the seventh Indians player since 2005 to achieve this feat.

TONIGHT: The Indians will look to retake a series lead against the Clippers at 7:05 PM ET. With Tuesday night's victory, the Indians have won four of their last six matchups against the Clippers and lead the season series, 8-6. Seven of the 13 games in their season series have been decided by two runs or less. Tonight, Jerad Eickhoff will take the mound for his 16th outing (ninth start) with the Indians this season, three appearances of which have come against Columbus. In those games, he is 1-2, with his first start against the Clippers on 4/21 marking his first season-high seven strikeout game. Countering for the home team is Peyton Battenfield, who is 0-1 with seven earned runs allowed in 11.1 innings across two starts against Indy this season.

HOME GROWN: Jerad Eickhoff was dominant against I-Cubs batters last Wednesday, allowing just two baserunners in 6.0 scoreless innings before a pair of hits in the seventh scored the game-tying run and took him out of line for his sixth win this season. The 7.0-inning outing was the right-hander's longest since tossing 8.0 innings on 5/8/19 with Philadelphia at St. Louis. It was also the second consecutive game where Eickhoff fanned seven batters, tying his season high. Each of his last five starts with Indianapolis have been for 5.0-or-more innings, and in those starts he is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA (8er/27.2ip) with 25 strikeouts.

THIS DATE IN 1982: In Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Oklahoma City 89ers at Bush Stadium, the Indians gave up seven runs in the top of the seventh to fall behind 13-7. With 12,612 fans in attendance, Indianapolis battled back with seven runs of their own in the home half to win 14-13. First baseman Ronnie Farkas went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and game-high five RBI. Indians third baseman Nick Esasky also doubled, homered and scored three runs in the thrilling victory. After the game, Indianapolis manager George Scherger said, "I've been in the game over 40 years and have never been involved in one like that."
