Memphis Redbirds News Release

NASHVILLE, TN - An offensive outburst powered the Memphis Redbirds past the Nashville Sounds 19-4 on Thursday night at First Horizon Park. It was the most lopsided victory of the season for Memphis, who scored a season-high 19 runs on 23 hits. The 23 were one base hit shy of a franchise record.

Memphis roared to a 10-0 lead after three innings, thanks to four home runs. In the top of the first inning, right fielder Moises Gomez clubbed his MiLB leading 26th home run of the season, a three-run shot to put Memphis up 4-0. An inning later, another three-run blast came thanks to center fielder Scott Hurst, making the score 7-0.

Later in the second, shortstop Paul DeJong hit a solo shot, his 12th of the season with the Redbirds. Finally, in the top of the third inning, Irving Lopez hit his first Triple-A home run of the season to put Memphis up an even 10-0.

Late-inning defensive replacement Delvin Perez added on in the seventh, with a two-run triple to bring his Triple-A RBI total to five, each coming on extra-base hits.

Lopez reached base five times including four hits, tied to lead the team on the night with Hurst. DeJong added his second home run of the night in the top of the ninth inning.

Starting pitcher Jake Woodford dazzled through five innings. The right-handed pitcher did not allow a run, struck out five batters and did not walk anyone to earn his first victory of the season.

The Memphis Redbirds (49-38) will face the Nashville Sounds (52-34) on Friday night for game four of the six game series. RHP Tommy Parsons is set to start for Memphis opposite RHP Marcus Walden for Nashville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CDT, with pregame 10 minutes prior on memphisredbirds.com and the First Pitch App.
