Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- On a night when Iron Man was honored, Mark Payton showed off his superhero-like skills at the plate and in the field.

Payton singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning and made a diving catch in the ninth inning to seal the victory as the Charlotte Knights beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday night in game two of the six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The win was Charlotte's second in as many days and third straight.

In the bottom of the first inning, Payton started things off for the Knights with a leadoff triple and quickly scored on an RBI by left fielder Adam Haseley. The Knights took an early 1-0 lead after just one inning on Wednesday night thanks to both Payton and Haseley. The two combined to drive home all three of Charlotte's runs on the night.

The IronPigs evened up the score in the top of the fourth inning when Donny Sands scored on a fielder's choice. The two teams were tied at 1-1 at that point and remained tied until the bottom of the eighth inning when Payton came through with the RBI single and Haseley drove home his second run of the game.

In the ninth, LHP Hunter Schryver closed things out to notch his second save of the season.
