Louisville Bats News Release
MOOSIC, PA - The Louisville Bats (35-51) suffered a setback on offense, falling 6-1 to the Scranton Wilks-Barre RailRiders (42-43) on Thursday night at PNC Field.
After a quiet first inning from both clubs, Scranton Wilkes-Barre struck in the bottom of second, scoring three runs in the inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
The RailRiders tacked on a single run in each of the next two innings to extend their lead to 5-0 as the Bats were unable to get anything going at the plate through the first four frames.
Walks spelled the difference in the game for Louisville as Bats' pitchers combined to issue ten free passes (Williamson 5, Payano 2, Dugger 3) compared to just four from the RailRiders' staff.
TJ Friedl provided the lone spark for the Bats on offense as he ended the RailRiders' shutout bid with a leadoff homerun down the right field line in the top half of the eighth inning. The long ball was Friedl's sixth of the season.
The RailRiders answered with a run of their own in the home half of eighth to push their lead back to five at 6-1 before closing the game out in the ninth.
Louisville and Scranton Wilkes-Barre will play game four of the six game series tomorrow with first pitch set for 6:35 pm E.T. Right-hander T.J. Zeuch (0-4, 8.79) will take the mound for the Bats and face off against RailRiders' righty Jhony Brito (4-1, 2.55).
