Durham Bulls News Release
LAWNRENCEVILL, Ga. - Bulls catcher Rene Pinto, center fielder Miles Mastrobuoni and second baseman Curtis Mead combined for eight runs while driving in all five of Durham's runs in a 5-3 victory over the Gwinnett Stripers on Thursday evening at Coolray Field.
Durham opened the scoring courtesy of Pinto's bloop RBI single to right-center plated Mastrobuoni. One inning later, Mastrobuoni mashed a run-scoring single to left to make it 2-0. Gwinnett would narrow their deficit in the following frame with an RBI double before evening the tally in the seventh when 3B Hernan Perez came plateward on a wild pitch.
The Bulls would break the tie for good in the eighth with a three-spot. Pinto drove in his second run of the evening by ripping an RBI single up the middle prior to Mead's two-run double down the left field line made it 5-2. The Stripers would add a tally in the ninth to make it 5-3, however were unable to draw the game any closer.
Pinto (3-4, R, 2 RBI), Mastrobuoni (3-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI) and Mead (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) combined for eight of the Bulls' 11 hits while driving in all five of the club's runs. LF Diego Infante (2-4, R) added a multi-hit effort as well in the win.
Durham starter Easton McGee (5.2 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) did not factor in the final decisions, while reliever Calvin Faucher (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, BB, SO) earned the victory. Bulls righty Cristofer Ogando (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER) notched the save while Stripers reliever Logan Webb (1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their series on Friday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. RHP Joe Wieland is slated to start for Durham and be opposed by RHP Bryce Elder.
The Bulls return to the DBAP on Friday, July 22 to begin a nine-game homestand hosting the Norfolk Tides and Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Their series opener versus Norfolk is set for 6:35pm.
