Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Buffalo Bisons (45-42) took the series lead with an extra-inning victory over the Iowa Cubs (38-48), Thursday at Principal Park.

The Bisons opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning, with both LJ Talley and Logan Warmoth scoring via bases loaded walks. They were two of just five total walks surrendered by starter Caleb Kilian, who also allowed three hits while striking out six over his 3.0 innings pitched.

Kilian was followed by Brandon Leibrandt, who kept Buffalo at just two runs with three scoreless innings. The lefty allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Iowa's offense got going with an RBI double from Nelson Maldonado in the third and Zach Davis in the fourth to tie the game. A solo home run from Jackson Frazier in the fifth gave Iowa a one-run lead at 3-2.

Ben Leeper kept the lead intact, throwing two innings of one-hit ball, striking out three along the way. He was followed by Michael Rucker, who recorded the first two outs in the ninth, but with runners on second and third, an error on the catcher Tyler Payne allowed a run to score and tie the game.

Iowa was held off the board in the ninth and the game headed to extras tied at three. Both teams went scoreless in the tenth, but the Bisons broke the tie with an RBI single from Chavez Young. They scored a second run on an RBI ground out, taking a 5-3 lead.

Dixon Machado drove in a run with a single in the bottom half of the inning, but Mike Ellenbest closed the door to earn Buffalo their second consecutive victory.
