WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (9-2) scored in five of their eight offensive innings to beat Lehigh Valley IronPigs (4-7) on Saturday afternoon, a 13-1 win at Polar Park to clinch a series victory.

For the eighth time in 10 games, the WooSox jumped out to the first lead of the ballgame, this time on a five run opening frame. Worcester's first batter, Ryan Fitzgerald, began the day with a triple to center. Two batters later, Triston Casas delivered an RBI triple to put the home team on top 1-0. After a strikeout, a single and hit-by-pitch, Roberto Ramos came through with a bases-loaded RBI single to make it 2-0. A wild pitch plated Connor Wong and also moved runners to second and third, and Yolmer Sanchez brought them both home on a two-run single to center. That was the final swing in a five-run, five-hit bottom half of the first for Worcester.

The WooSox entered the day with 19 home runs, the most of any team in Minor League Baseball. In the second, Rob Refsnyder became the ninth Worcester player to go deep, a 437-foot two-run homer that landed beyond the berm in left. An inning later, Roberto Ramos hit his second long ball in as many days, a 445-foot blast of his own off the batter's eye in dead center. Ramos has three home runs this season, all of which travelled further than 420 feet.

On the mound, WooSox starter Darwinzon Hernandez delivered three scoreless innings for the second straight start. The left-hander allowed three baserunners (two walks, one hit) and struck out five in a 37-pitch outing.

Working against Worcester reliever Kyle Hart, Lehigh Valley got one run back on a passed ball in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, Franchy Cordero tracked on two more WooSox runs on a double to center, and in the eighth, Deivy Grullon grabbed his first two Worcester RBIs with a double of his own.

Altogether, the home team finished the day with 13 runs-a feat the 2021 WooSox accomplished once-on 15 hits and six extra-base-hits.

The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Television coverage begins at 4 p.m. on NESN+, while radio coverage is live at 3:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Tickets are available at WooSox.com.
