Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds lost game five of a six-game series with the Charlotte Knights on Saturday night at Truist Field in Charlotte, 12-5.

Memphis added four more home runs to its 2022 season total. Second baseman Nolan Gorman hit his fifth homer in his last five games with a solo shot in the top of the first inning. Shortstop Evan Mendoza added another solo homer in the third to give the Redbirds a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, the Redbirds hit back-to-back home runs for the first time this season. First baseman Luken Baker hit a two-run homer to left field, followed by a designated hitter Conner Capel blast to dead center field, making the score 5-1.

The four homers would supply the only runs for Memphis on Saturday night. Charlotte would go on to score 11 unanswered runs, including eight runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fifth inning.

T.J. Zeuch (0-2) was credited with the loss in his third start of the season. The Redbirds (6-5) return to Truist Field for the final game of the six-game series on Sunday to take on the Charlotte Knights (5-6) at 12:05 p.m. CDT.
