Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks have traded their first round pick in today's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft to the Kelowna Rockets for their first round pick in the 2012 Import Draft.

All teams are allowed two import players, and the Winterhawks will keep Sven Bartschi and Nino Niederreiter on the roster in the event they are returned to Portland by their National Hockey League teams.

Bartschi was drafted in the first round, 13th overall, by the Calgary Flames in last week's NHL Entry Draft. Niederreiter was drafted fifth overall by the New York Islanders in last year's draft, and played nine games with them before rejoining the Winterhawks.

The Import Draft is held annually to allow teams to select European players, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2010-11 season.

Season tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale now. Fans can call 503-236-HAWK or email seats@winterhawks.com to book their seats.
