Winterhawks Spoil Home Opener

Tonight at the Everett Events Center in Everett, WA the Portland Winterhawks defeat the Everett Silvertips 3-1 at the season home opener where 7,026 fans attended.

The Silvertips' lone goal was scored by forward Karel Hromas. Assisting in the goal were Silvertips' defenders Mitch Love and Shaun Heshka. Michael Wall, in goal tonight, stopped 21 of 23 Winterhawk shots. On the penalty kill, Everett went 1 for 7 while Portland went 0 for 1. Shots on goal for the Silvertips were 29 while Portland fired 24 at the net.

For Portland, Garrett Festerling tallied 2 assists while Brian Woolger, Brandon Dubinsky and Michael Funk scored a goal apiece.

One of the highlights of the game came during the first intermission where David Hicks of Lake Stevens successfully scored a goal from the far blue line to win a 2001 Ford Ranger in the Brien Ford Factory Center Puck Shot promotion.

The puck drops again on October 2nd at 7:05 at the Everett Events Center against the Vancouver Giants. Tickets are still available by calling 425-252-5100.
