Silvertips Lose in Overtime 2-1

Brandon Heatherington fought off 11 of 12 Thunderbird shots in overtime but just couldn't hang on to the tie on Friday night at Olympicview Ice Arena in Mountlake Terrace as the Seattle Thunderbirds pull out a 2-1 overtime victory over the Everett Silvertips.

Silvertips forward Curtis Billsten scored early with their only goal in the game during the first period. Adding assists to the lone goal were Torrie Wheat and Ivan Baranka. In goal, Leland Irving and Brandon Heatherington combined to make 35 saves.

All the excitement came when the Silvertips received two overtime penalties and the Thunderbirds gave Heatherington and the Silvertips everything in their arsenal for 4 minutes and 45 seconds. Seattle outshot Everett by a margin of 37-26. The Silvertips went 1 for 12 on the power play while the Thunderbirds went 0 for 5 on the extra man advantage.

The Silvertips travel across the state to battle the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:05pm.
