Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - Friday night started just how the Moose Jaw Warriors drew it up with two goals in the first 69 seconds, but the rest of the night didn't go their way.

The Warriors dropped a lopsided 11-2 game to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

"Everything that we did wrong tonight, they exposed us for it," Warriors assistant coach Scott King said. "No excuses, we need to be a whole lot better, but we made it tough on ourselves tonight."

The loss drops the Warriors' record to 21-13-0-0 this season.

The Warriors will look to rebound when these two teams close out their home-and-home on New Year's Eve in Brandon.

"We need to be cleaning some stuff up and be better tomorrow and I really believe we will be, guys are really ticked off in there," King said. "We're going to show up and we'll bounce back."

Ryder Korczak scored 39 seconds into the game and Harper Lolacher followed it up just 30 seconds later to give the Warriors an early 2-0 lead.

"Two shifts, two goals, you couldn't have asked for a better start and I don't know, for whatever reason, a couple of goals set us back and we were on our heels," King said.

The Warriors had other opportunities to extend their lead, but couldn't finish in front of the Wheat Kings' net.

"We had some pucks laying around the net and we're just not getting over top of it and slamming the net, we're just kind of flicking on it and hoping it goes in," King said.

After the miss chances, the Wheat Kings' responded with goals from Nate Danielson and Zakhar Polshakov in the first period to tie the game at 2-2 after a back-and-forth opening frame.

A pair of penalties to start the second set the Warriors back and Brandon pounced with four goals in 1:30 as Luke Shipley, Mason Ward, Rylen Roersma and Brett Hyland quickly made it 6-2.

Roger McQueen and Calder Anderson added goals later in the frame to give the Wheat Kings a six-goal advantage after two.

Evan Groening, Nolan Ritchie and Anthony Wilson picked up goals in the third to finish off the lopsided win for Brandon.

Jackson Unger stopped 16 of 21 shots before being replaced by Connor Ungar, who turned away 17 of 23 shots.

Nicolas Jones made 21 saves in the win.

The Warriors will face the Wheat Kings in the final game of 2022 on Saturday in Brandon. Puck drops at 5 p.m. CST.
