The Americans and Chiefs will meet tonight for the fourth time in their 12-game season series.
Tri-City won their most recent meeting 4-2 on October 26 in Kennewick. Parker Bell led the Ams that night with a pair of goals, one of four two-goal games this season for the Calgary Flames prospect.
Both teams are looking to get back into the win column tonight as Tri-City fell in overtime to Portland on Wednesday and the Chiefs have lost their last five games (4-0-0-1). The two teams will face each other again tomorrow in Kennewick for their annual New Year's Eve bash at the Toyota Center.
Tri-City most recently played on Wednesday in Portland. Despite a strong performance, the Ams fell 4-3 in overtime to the Winterhawks.
Rookie defenseman Merrek Arpin opened scoring with his first ever WHL goal two minutes into the game but Tri-City was unable to hold a lead for long. Jake Sloan led the Ams with a goal and pair of assists. Lukas Dragicevic also scored for Tri-City, extending his historic point streak to 26 games.Jared Picklyk played in net, his second start with Tri-City, turning aside 43 of 47 shots faced.
Tri-City has struggled on the road - now losing their last seven road games (0-5-1-1), but excelled at home - winning their last seven at the Toyota Center.
Americans forward Adam Mechura and goaltender Tomas Suchanek are gone to the World Junior Championship They are currently 2-0-1 with victories against Canada, Austria, and an overtime loss to Sweden. Suchanek has shone in net for Czechia, already setting a tournament record with three assists as a netminder.
