Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings fell Wednesday night, 8-1, to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, losing their second-straight game to start the series. 2B Darren Baker collected his first home run since 5/6 in the loss, recording Rochester's lone multi-hit performance.

Scranton/WB began scoring Wednesday night, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after RF Franchy Cordero grounded out to bring in CF Everson Pereira. LF Oswaldo Cabrera added to the RailRiders' lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run, the 11th-straight solo shot allowed by Rochester pitching, to give them a 2-0 advantage. Cordero extended the lead to 3-0 in the next inning with an RBI single that plated Pereira.

Scranton/WB further cushioned their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring for the fourth-straight frame when DH Austin Wells drove in 2B Jamie Westbrook on an RBI single. A sacrifice fly out from Pereira brought in Cabrera to give the RailRiders a 5-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, 2B Darren Baker put the Wings on the board with a solo home run, his first long ball since 5/6 which also came against Scranton/WB, to cut the deficit to 5-1.

The RailRiders came back in the bottom half of the inning to hang three runs on the Wings, moving their lead to 8-1. Cabrera's groundout got Scranton/WB going, scoring C Carlos Narvaez, and an RBI single from Pereira brought around two more runners to cap off the inning. Rochester couldn't muster another run in the final three innings, managing two base runners in the final three frames to fall to the RailRiders, 8-1.

RHP José Ureña (1-3, 6.31) worked 4.1 innings in his 15th start of the season with Rochester. He allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out a batter and ultimately taking the loss. RHP Tommy Romero pitched the final 3.2 innings, his longest outing since 4/29 against STP, allowing three runs on four hits while walking five and striking out three.

2B Darren Baker earned Wednesday night's Diamond Pro Player of the Game honors after he went 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI and run in the loss. Baker collected the Wings' only multi-hit performance of the evening, recording his first homer since 5/6 and second this season against Scranton/WB.

The Red Wings return to action tomorrow night for the third game in their six-game series against the RailRiders. LHP Alex Troup will make his second career appearance with the Wings and will go up against RHP Will Warren. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
