Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In his first start at Coolray Field since September 2022, Atlanta Braves' No. 7 prospect Darius Vines turned in his longest start of the season, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings to set up the Gwinnett Stripers' (46-57) 6-0 win over the Indianapolis Indians (49-54) on Wednesday night at Coolray Field.
Decisive Plays: A two-run triple from Braden Shewmake broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning and gave the Stripers a 2-0 lead. Gwinnett expanded the lead to 6-0 in the seventh inning with run-scoring hits from Dalton Guthrie and Vaughn Grissom, while Shewmake drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Key Contributors: Vines (5.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 SO) kept the Indians off the scoreboard in his second Triple-A start of the year. Brian Moran (H, 6) and Seth Elledge combined on 3.2 one-hit frames to finish off the shutout. At the plate for Gwinnett, Shewmake (2-for-3, triple, 3 RBIs) supplied a big chunk of the offense, while Guthrie (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Hoy Park (2-for-4) collected the other two multi-hit games. For the Indians, Miguel Andujar (2-for-4, double) has recorded an extra-base hit in four straight games.
Noteworthy: With his RBI single hit in the seventh inning, Grissom increased his team-best on-base streak to 27 games. Vines picked up his first win at any level since September 10, 2022 with Gwinnett at Buffalo. The Stripers collected their fifth shutout win of the season, and first since June 2 at Norfolk (won 16-0).
Next Game (Thursday, August 3): Gwinnett vs. Indianapolis, 7:05 p.m. ET at Coolray Field. Broadcast: 6:50 p.m. ET on MyCountry993.com and Bally Live. LHP Dylan Dodd (2-5, 7.94 ERA) will start for the Stripers against RHP Luis Ortiz (3-4, 4.40 ERA) for the Indians.
